Aphrodisiacs and Their Uses

In ancient Greece, aphrodisiacs seem to have been widely used and are defined as a food or drug arousing sexual desire. Many herbs have been used as aphrodisiacs and in types of love magic in order to get someone to fall in love with the individual who performs the magic. There are accounts of aphrodisiacs being used by men for medication or self help, for example, in the form of creams or wearing part of a plant to increase sexual potency. It seems that the aphrodisiacs used by women are mostly in the form of magic to make themselves seem more charming to men, to make men more affectionate, or to keep a husband from straying.
